What is Marijuana?

Marijuana (AKA weed, pot, bud, etc.) is a psychoactive drug, which means it alters brain functioning. It comes from the cannabis plant & can be used for recreational or medical purposes. The cannabis flower is made up of many compounds, including:

TETRAHYDROCANNABINOL (THC)

Main psychoactive compound in marijuana that gives the "high" sensation. The higher the THC%, the more effect you will feel.

CANNABIDIOL (CBD)

Non-psychoactive compound that's used to impart a feeling of relaxation & calm.

Types of Marijuana

Sativa: High THC level, energizing, stimulating, increased creativity and focus

Indica: High CBD level, relaxing, relief of pain, decreases nausea, increases appetite, better sleep.

Hybrid: Mix of Indica and Sativa effects depending on the traits from their parent strains.

Is Marijuana Legal?

Marijuana has not been analyzed or approved by the FDA, there is limited information on side effects, there may be health risks associated with using Marijuana, and it should be kept away from children.

Signs & symptoms of misuse

Neglecting responsibilities at work, school, or home because of your marijuana use. Taking unsafe risks while under the influence. Your Marijuana use is causing you legal trouble. Your Marijuana use is causing problems in your relationship.

Tolerance, dependence, withdrawal

Marijuana tolerance may be a sign that you are misusing marijuana. Tolerance is when you need to use more of the drug to experience the same affects you used to attain with smaller amounts. If you take marijuana to avoid or relieve withdrawal symptoms, it may be time to seek help. This occurs if you go too long without marijuana and then you experience symptoms such as nausea, restlessness, insomnia, depression, sweating, shaking, and anxiety.

Can i drive after using cannabis?

When under the influence of Marijuana, driving is prohibited by M.G.L. c. 90, sec. 24, and machinery should not be operated.

How much cannabis can I buy in Massachusetts?

Customers may purchase up to 1 ounce of flower or 5 grams of concentrate per day; edibles will be contingent based on potency as part of the 1-ounce limit. Having more than the legal limit (1 oz.) outside of your home may result in 6 months imprisonment or up to $500 in fines.

Can i share my cannabis?

The act of gifting cannabis to other adults who are 21+ with within legal limits (up to 1oz. of flower or 5 grams of concentrate is legal). However, the act of selling or re-selling cannabis is illegal. A first-time offense (less than 50lbs.) can be subjected to up to 2 years in prison or a $5,000 fine.

Additional offense can result in 2.5 years of imprisonment or a $10,000 fine.
